Questions & Answers about Our Corn

Very often folks ask about where our corn comes from and what kind of corn we grind.

To start with, we grind either white or yellow corn: white corn makes white grits and meal and yellow corn makes yellow grits and meal. Our Self-rising Meal is made from white corn.  From time to time we use a "Flint" white corn which is the, generally speaking, big, flat kernels of corn that is very hard. Primarily we use a commercial corn that is designed specifically for milling.  Over the years we have been very satisfied with the variety of corn we have been using. All corn is tested by the Georgia Department of Agriculture Labs in order to assure our customers of only the best and safest products that we can produce.

At Freeman's Mill we try to only grind corn and wheat that is locally grown.  We also have enjoyed growing our own corns during certain seasons.  No matter the source, we are very diligent to seek out and grind only the best grains, that we ourselves would eat and feed our families, and provide for our valued customers.
